There is no other fix/solution/trick/etc.īTW, Round-trip latency of 6ms (or less) feels similar to playing thru a POD. or to increase your sample-rate.ĭoubling the sample-rate cuts the ASIO input and output buffer latency in half. The only way to reduce your round-trip latency is to lower the ASIO buffer size. Increasing the threshold results in a higher amount of gating by making the gate. so the Fireface's 6ms is right in the ballpark of the best possible round-trip latency performance. The best PCI/e audio interfaces net a total round-trip latency of 5ms at an ASIO buffer size of 64-samples/44/1k. (which would start to feel sluggish to me) Thus, when you have your ASIO playback buffer size at 2.2ms, you're actually netting (roughly) 7.4ms of round-trip latency. The cost is a pretty reasonable 199 and for your bucks you get 17 amps, 27 cabs, and 54 stompboxes/studio rackmount processors. Very, very low latency (I hesitate to say 'none', but if its there, its never noticeable), and almost no CPU load. Approximately 30 amps, lots of adjustable effects.

ASIO output buffer (1.5ms at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size/44.1k) Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5 Pro ( PC and Mac compatible, Guitar Rig 5 Pro is another industry stalwart used by thousands of players globally. I think Guitar Rig is great if you play different styles. ASIO input buffer (1.5ms at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size/44.1k) Round-trip latency is the sum of the following: Not the 2.2ms reported in your ASIO control panel.Īt a 64-sample ASIO buffer size/44.1k, the Fireface units deliver a total round-trip latency of 6ms. How do I do that Also, the sustain is really bad as well.

When you're playing/monitoring in realtime thru software EFX plugins, you're experiencing round-trip latency. When I play, theres like 30ms latency and I want to reduce it down. I have played with my current setup and gotten my latency down to 2.2ms Appreciate any thoughts or comments on this approach. I have Googled ABY amp switches and found a few below. Has anyone done this ABY thing, will it work, and what devices would work for this purpose?

I have played with my current setup and gotten my latency down to 2.2ms and trying to use the input echo feature with Guitar Rig in the FX bin, however, it's the round trip latency that is causing delays that I am unable to compensate for. I can plug the Kontrol Rig output into my Mackie Mixer and the RME FF800 also goes into the Mackie so monitoring both sources is not a problem. You might assume that a sound card with a listed latency of 5.8 ms is outperforming one with a listed latency of 11.6 ms. I would add Guitar Rig to the FX Bin in Sonar after recording. The latest version includes two essential new high-gain amps, six powerful new effects, and 19 new cabinets exquisitely. Would it work to use an ABY amp switch to get rid of latency monitoring issue using the following setup? I was envisioning plugging the guitar into the ABY amp switch switch, Channel A would go to Kontrol Rig/Guitar Rig, in standalone mode, which would act as a live monitor, Channel B could go into the RME sound card which would be recording a clean signal directly from the guitar. 'GUITAR RIG 5 PRO is the ultimate software solution for perfect custom tone with more amps, more effects and more creative potential than ever before, all in a powerful and intuitive virtual effects rack.

I also have a Guitar Rig Kontrol unit and Guitar Rig 3. I had an idea that I would like to get some opines on. I am just not that great of a player to compensate for the delays. There is no shortage of information on this forum regarding Guitar Rig and latency issues and I have read most of them, however, for me any latency recording is unacceptable. With all wires and no extra digital devices, I can't detect that.
